Mission

A kitchen is finished when the dishes, worktops, sink, and next meal's starting position are handled.

This is a reset, not a deep clean. It is the everyday handover standard for a kitchen that other people also use.

01

Required equipment

Gather the apparatus.

Bin and food containers

Dispose of scraps and store food safely before wiping surfaces.

Dishwashing supplies

Use the dishwasher or hand-washing procedure for the items in front of you.

Clean cloth and suitable cleaner

Choose a product appropriate for the countertop and follow its label.

Safety orders

Before proceeding

Food safety is not optional

Refrigerate perishable food promptly. Wash surfaces that contacted raw meat, poultry, seafood, or eggs and follow local sanitizing advice.

Do not mix cleaners

Use one product at a time according to its label. Never combine bleach with another cleaner.

Keep hands clean

Wash hands after handling rubbish or cleaning chemicals and before handling food.

02

Visual reference

The reset runs in one direction

01Food

Store or discard it first.

02Dishes

Collect, sort, wash, and dry.

03Surfaces

Remove objects, then clean.

04Handover

Sink, floor, cloth, and next-use readiness.

03

Standard procedure

6 defensible moves.

  1. 01

    Rescue the food

Put away ingredients and leftovers promptly according to food-safety guidance. Do not leave perishables on the counter while you debate the dishes.

Inspection: Food is stored or discarded, not waiting beside the sink.
  2. 02

    Gather and sort

Collect dishes from the table and room. Scrape scraps; group dishwasher-safe items, hand-wash items, and things that simply belong elsewhere.

Inspection: Every dish has a destination.
  3. 03

    Wash the dishes

Load and run the dishwasher when appropriate. Hand-wash what cannot go in it, then drain and dry it properly.

Inspection: No dirty dish is left without a deliberate plan.
  4. 04

    Clear and clean surfaces

Move small appliances or items as needed. Wipe crumbs and soil from counters, table, and frequently touched handles using a surface-appropriate cleaner.

Inspection: No visible food, stickiness, or cleaner residue remains.
  5. 05

    Finish the sink and floor

Empty the drain catcher, wash the sink and taps, and spot-clean spills on the floor. Replace the bin liner if the bin was emptied.

Inspection: The sink drains and the floor has no fresh spill or trip hazard.
  6. 06

    Set up the next person

Put away dry dishes, return supplies, hang or launder the cloth, and leave a clear work area.

Inspection: Someone can start the next meal without first undoing this one.
04

Common failures

Where the operation tends to go sideways.

Calling the dishwasher button the finish line

Running a cycle does not clear the counter, sink, or forgotten pan.

Wiping around objects

The crumbs remain underneath. Move items safely and clean the actual surface.

Reusing a dirty cloth

A heavily soiled cloth spreads mess. Rinse, replace, or launder it.

05

Field exercise

Try it where the equipment lives.

Start a 15-minute kitchen reset after a meal. Work in the printed order, then ask whether someone else could immediately prepare a snack.

Pass mark: They can reach a clear counter, clean sink, and the equipment they need.

The job meets the standard
